Currently 16, thinking of getting either normal braces or invisalign. I have an overbite (5mm) gap between lower and under teeth, and a slight gap between my two upper incisors. My maxilla is also recessed.

Which type of braces should I get to fix this overbite or should I instead get some form of surgery in order to also fix my maxilla, what type of surgery? Can the braces have a negative impact? Anything specific I should not let my ortho do? Thanks!

how do you have overbite and recessed maxilla?

If its an overbite then theyre just going to pull back the top teeth with elastics recessing your maxilla further. But it depends if the overbite was from tongue thrust or it's just your mandible is recessed more than your maxilla. A picture would be clearer. Never trust these orthodontists, they only care about bite alignment, not the bones nor aesthetics around it. (Which means they could very easily fuck up a situation like yours)

Jst dont let them put class 2 bands on you and you will be fine

Braces can actually help with facial structure I’d just avoid bands imo

Class 2 bands being back bottom to front top
That's basically what theyre going to do, there's no way they could bring the bite forward. Otherwise youre just doing slight alignments, MAYBE expanding the arch but the roi is not worth it

I see, so what should I tell them in order to not fuck me up? What about damon braces? Or some kind of RPE?

Pretty sure it's just my mandible which is recessed and not tongue thrust, or maybe a genetic issue.

Do you think damon braces would be a good idea? Or should I get something like a herbst aswell?
Both of those would have the same negatives, Braces are good class 2 bands are not, If they try and give you class to bands discuss head gear, It might actually be a really good thing for you to do as it will pull your mandible forward without the bands con of pulling your maxilla back
