Personally I don’t think removing wisdom teeth recesses the jaws. But someone showed me a theory of the maxillary sinuses dropping down causing loss of malar support which could happen and I noticed it somewhat to me. But I just don’t see how wisdom teeth removal would recess the jaws in terms of forward growth. Thoughts? Anyone become recessed after wisdom removal?

Idk it was proposed from MakingItHappen and someone showed me it from discord
filling and maturation of the alveolar sockets will happen after wisdom teeth removal, if you still have all your teeth then you will produce enough mechanic tension to keep the jaws stimulated which will result in 0 bone loss

the jaw is mostly done developing when you're in your late teens, having them removed then probably has close to no impact.

Do you mean the rest of ur teeth besides wisdoms? Although very slight bone loss still occurs after the roots are taken out in general

Wdym in terms of no impact? Like no recession from having them removed or bone loss? I heard you had your wisdoms removed

My brother had 6 wisdom teeth and had all his removed and didn’t see any changes so

:blackpill: wisdom teeth removal DOES NOT cause jaw recession as long as you don't get them removed until you are 100% finished growing. Or if you then have an orthodontist pull the rest of your teeth backwards to fill in the now empty spaces. Premolar removal DOES cause jaw recession because the ortho then pulls your anterior teeth backwards. This is not my opinion just facts.

it can't stunt your development if you're done developing.

I had 8 teeth removed but I had a teeth disorder that gave me extra teeth.

So if u remove the teeth after jaw development is done ur jaw won’t recess

it does recesss your jaw. look at old people who lose their teeth and how their face loses all bone mass. its just not as noticeable with wisdom teeth since its 32 to 28 teeth but it definitely has an impact

That's not what studies say.

"A change in facial structure should not be expected for two primary reasons. First, the wisdom teeth reside in an area of dense bone. The process of removing them does not result in enough bone loss to create a significant hole. Second, the section of the jaw in which the teeth sit is not a part of the mandible structure that gives the jaw its shape. As such, removal is unlikely to alter facial structure."

Jaw recession would be the face retracting literally, wisdom teeth are at the end of the arch so the face doesn’t recess normally
