First option has more opportunity to move up. Life probably would suck at first, but would most likely improve as he got older as he experiences lots of opportunities that most people in the slums could never even imagine.

Second option would probably have an easier childhood, but is more likely to be socially isolated and be seen as a burden on society as he gets older and get less opportunities.

true tbh but who are you going to meet in the slums? your best bet is that a western journalist comes through at the right moment but that's a once in a decade experience

Maybe, but I just saw a documentary on a model who was from the Indian slums, and apparently it's happened before with other people form poor backgrounds.

Either way, there's not much point looking too deep into this question.
