I went to the big-box music store at the time to buy a tape or two. I noticed NIN - looked interesting. So I bought it. That night I played the tape. I immediately felt a type of negatively come over me. I listened to each track waiting for something to change for the better - it never came. I realized right away this music wasn't for me. It was completely opposite to anything that could create something good for me. The next day I returned the tape to the big-box music store. The cashier had a type of counter-culture style. She immediately became irritable with me and my return of what was probably her favorite band. She tried to aggressively question me. I just told her to return the tape. A different cashier witnessed her fracture and took over the return. He apologized for her. That's my experience with NIN.
