Since everyone wears shoes and sneakers like this, random Air Max will give you exactly zero bonus or maybe a few mm.

Depends where you are in Germany, but 5'7" is well below average everywhere in all areas. Northern Germany is a lot taller than the other parts, in cities with many ethnics you will see way more people around your height and you can cope. With 5'10"-5'11" i feel death average in eastern Germany but like a dwarf in northern Germany.
