All animals (including humans) should doggedly compete in the rat race. It will provide the greatest life satisfaction and has the greatest potential reward. Naturally humans wouldn't think, "My genes suck and I was born to fail, might as well not try". Instead they'd fight hard for some success - reproduction, food, status. You're just bound to be way more depressed if you live unnaturally and start worshiping genetics.
