If 10 people existed there's 5 women and 5 men. Let's say women are not choosing 3 men and they are going on dates with 2, so 5 women are sharing 2 men. What these 2 men do? They either get into LTR or hookup, let's say 1 man gets into a LTR.
The man who is dating the rest of women reduces his options to two because 2 of them want to be in a LTR but he doesn't. So 2 women are not dating but do not wanna date the rest 3 of men. So who losses? Men. 1 of them is into a LTR, 1 goes out with 2 women and there's 3 men left out with no possibilities of dating.
And what happens? The 2 women left are waiting for any of those 2 guys to be ready for a LTR and the rest of men will never find a partner. Some women desire to be single by choice due to their high standards as they do not want to date average men despite being average looking women.
