Never break a bow whether it's with yourself or with others, otherwise just be a strong enough man and don't make a promise. If you can't force yourself to not make a promise, how will you force yourself to fulfill it? Never be like your enemies, never be treacherous and never use low blows with people you are suppossed to respect and treat kindly under your arm, as a man, instead of bully and push to a corner for the sake of your desires and wicked inclinations.
As much as many won't admit it, the moment you break a vow you feel less of a man with yourself, even if you are tricking yourself to not believe so. You know it deep inside. There is a reason the japanese population on WW2 didn't want to surrender and break their vows, they had a deeply rooted sense of honor and dignity. Look at them now. Defeat is better than self betrayal and surrender. If you don't manage to convince yourself of this, it's over.
