I think the 2015 Japanese drama is a decent adaptation, same for the Japanese live action movies that had their start in 2006, before the anime was released.

But I can understand why so many people dislike the 2015 J-Drama, Light not being a genius (in the iconic potato scene L notice that Light has something inside the potato chip bag, a trick he never noticed in the original source) is hard to swallow, plus L is a bit or jerk in this adaptation. But I liked Near in it, he was adorable, while in the manga and anime he wasn't as likeable

The only adaptation I dislike is that horrendous American Netflix movie, it's very inferior to the 2 Japanese live action movies released in 2006, which kept the manga premise, but changed some things here and there, while still having the same spirit of the source material.
