What’s up y’all, gonna keep it short
Does bonesmashing work? Or would y’all reccomend it and what might some negatives to it be?
And is it possible to lower my mandible? I have a decent ish lower third with hollow cheeks but where my mandible begins is too high up from my chin. Is it possible to lower this? Or what surgeries might help w this?
+don’t mind the left side jaw imbalance on my masseter it’s cause I chewed gum for years on the right side n am correcting it rn

the function of the zygomatic arch is literally to absorb and transmit the force from chewing. therefore chewing is like bone smashing, but it probably doesnt really do anything after growth has stopped

That depends, the more mineralised your sutures are already, the more difficult it will be to grow the zygomatic arch and the upper jaw. If your occlusion is good, then chewing hard, resting your teeth together and practicing good tongue and neck posture is advisable and will definetly improve your gonial angle, your ramus length and will grow both jaws forward. If you want more you can do mse + facemask. Do you have malocclusion?

I have had braces so no malocclusion. I have good neck and tongue posture and chew gum daily. I wear a retainer at night, would that hinder any positive facial changes?

Not sure about chewing gums effects on the zygos but it def affects the masseter muscle and makes your jaw look wider. My main problem Rn is a small left masseter muscle due to only chewing on the right side and my mandible angle.

You have short ramus’s. Chewing for years will make these grow theoretically.

Ohhh didn’t realise that that was what the problem was, cheers. Are there any procedures/other things I can do to extend them?

Yes a retainer will conserve your present occlusion and will limit the amount of transverse and sagittal expansion you can get, however you can still get good gains in your gonial angle and some vertical maxillary gains. If your good occlusion is accompanied with eugnathia then you should look reasonably well in your present state. However, if you have dysgnathia and your prior orthodontic treatment only fixed your teeth, then it may be worthwhile to consider additional orthodontic/orthognatic therapy such as MSE and Facemask to correct skeletal discrepancies.

I am not that knowledgeable on overbites and i do not know the severity of your specific case but if you are young your lower jaw will continue to grow and if you are able to maintain good oral posture, it will do so in the correct direction. But since your occlusion is not good you will have difficulties and it would be wise to consider some kind of treatment preferably for both the Maxilla and thr Mandible, if required.
