I really doubt 1 day of retin-a did anything to you, probably a placebo
it took me at least 4 weeks until I started to see it getting better (at 0.05%) after a small purge

probably this, always shave when on retin-a to let it effect you better, and don't expect results so fast and expect it to get worse
in the first few weeks before it gets better and don't rush it (give yourself a break of 1-3 days if you are too irritated depeneds on how you feel) just remember that in the end of the tunnel there is a godly collagen waiting for you
