It's well known that across the world 105 boys are born for every 100 girls. That's because nature does not want all males to reproduce. Even in a perfectly monogamous society with no hypergamy about 5% of males will be unable to find mate. Even though it seems like a slight imbalance, it only takes a small shortage of something to create a hypercompetitive environment. Imagine there's 105 people waiting in line for a store to open with 110 in stock of the newest gaming system and they knew it. It would be orderly, no one would cut in line because there's enough to go around. Now imagine those 105 people know there's only 100 available. There's going to be a frenzy as soon as the doors open, fights might even break out. Even a slight shortage has a huge effect on behavior. On the flip side women are at least subconsciously aware there's a shortage of women, and that causes their behavior of acting spoiled and picky.
Let's assume a country with 10 million people with a stable replacement fertility rate of 2.1. In that monogamous country of 10 million there will be 244,000 male incels for whom it will be impossible to find a mate in their life because the supply of females simply doesn't exist. However in modern society the number of male incels is even larger because of hookup culture, hypergamy, and an inverted age pyramid.
