My (F41) son turns 17 years old today.
He is absolutely lovely. Handsome. Intelligent. Tall. Strong. His father left us when he was quite small, and it’s just been me and his sister.
It’s been a struggle. Raising him on my own. I’ve never been a boy, or raised a man before. We’ve figured some difficult things out, him and I. He has risen to be the man of the house. Chopping the kindling. Carrying heavy things. Maning it up.
But. He is so depressed. Especially today. Despondent. Dropped out of school when the distance learning began. Lays in his bed. Doesn’t eat. Doesn’t talk. I get to run with him in the mornings sometimes. And have the most wonderful conversations with him (about nunchucks, the dark web and grenade launchers). But. He is so sad. So angry.
His father was an addict. Profoundly mentally ill. Bipolar. Psychotic.
What do I do? How do I help my lovely beast of a son? What does he need from me to prosper?
