It's true. It's mainly environment caused.

Food: back then less produced. Natures food is harder to eat, more chewing, and stuff like that. Which helps with maxxila stuff.

Back then less sitting passive activities. Now boys play computer games sitting and compete on screen. Or are busy with competeing for followers/views on youtube or insta or whatevers.
Competeing and having fun back then, ment meeting up with each other in groups. And compete there, with a bit of banter, a bit of fooling around, a bit of fighting, sports, and so on.

I must say. rooger Moore stayed pretty good looking untill his 40's

Here he was 46.

But when he was 50, like in this pic. The Collagen reaper, and skin decline really got him totalle. And he decended really hard.
He had good hair genes. But the skin decline is what got him in the end.
