There are so many books that are more pertinent to our actual society in the west. 1984 is becoming so mainstream that it's a joke. If you want to read 1984 you should read "Brave New World" by Huxley or "Animal Farm" by Orwell. Both books are better than 1984 and draw more parralels to our modern society. I have read all three books mentioned and my ranking is 1. Brave New World, 2. Animal Farm, 3. 1984. Based on the criteria of pertinence and parallel drawing and the book's overall appeal to me.

I read Brave New World. I don't think I have read 1984 or Animal Farm, but both books are sufficiently described in the popular culture such that I don't feel it necessary to read them. Off the top of my head:
1984: A totalitarian State employing cameras everywhere and police to spy on people and enforce the will of the elites and suppress normal peoples. Government agencies are created that mean the opposite of what they actually do. A propaganda State.
Animal Farm: A group of farm animals form a socialist coop, things go fine at the beginning, then the Administrators (pigs) gradually
grant themselves more privileges and rights, then it turns into a dictatorship.
All three are inaccurate crap.
Imagine calling works of fiction inaccurate

They were written as a warning. They're shitty books that don't accurately describe the descent into tyranny.

I tried to read 1984 at one point but gave up. I did watch the movie, though but even it wasn't terribly interesting.

Tbh I feel 1984 fails to actually capture the horror of a real totalitarian state. Half the time the people don't even seem that frightenened.

being mainstream doesn't make it inferior, if anything, it's a sign that it's the most relevant. reeing normies can only determine qualify on how popular or unpopular something is. cringe :lul::lul::lul::lul::lul:
