A guy had been socially isolated growing up, but later at university things improved: he made friends, dated women, lost his virginity, and even got a girlfriend. Then he found lookism forums and started believing looks matter far more than personality or anything else.
He began dissecting himself into “good traits” and “bad traits.” He focused heavily on what he saw as his flaw: a slightly retruded lower jaw/overbite, even though he admitted it wasn't severe and he still had noticeable positive features.
Then he visited orthodontists because he only wanted some crooked teeth corrected. One orthodontist simply said: braces, no surgery needed. But another orthodontist told him his mandible was retruded, said surgery plus braces and jaw widening might be needed, and mentioned things like a prominent chin being important for male attractiveness and European beauty standards. That hit him hard because he said he barely thought about his jaw before that appointment.
After that he went deeper into lookism sites for hours, became obsessed with flaws, stopped caring about studying, sports, or even his girlfriend, and said all his previous positive experiences suddenly felt meaningless.
