2021 Kazan school shooter marries an 18-year-old fan from prison

An 18-year-old 'aspiring journalist' Diana K.—a native of the Rostov Oblast currently living in Moscow—saw Galyaviev in person during one of his court hearings and later visited him for a meeting, after which they decided to get married.

The marriage between Diana and the life-sentenced Galyaviev was registered in late June at Penal Colony No. 6 (ИК-6) in the city of Sol-Iletsk, Orenburg Oblast. The spouses will only be allowed to see each other once a year.

On May 11, 2021, then-19-year-old Ilnaz Galyaviev, a former student, entered Gymnasium No. 175 in Kazan and shot dead 7 children and 2 teachers with a hunting shotgun, injuring 24 others. A psychiatric evaluation declared him fully sane, and in 2023, the court sentenced him to life in prison.
