30/31 NBA Playoffs: First Round Summary
AKA: The Worst Round 1 Product in League History allegations were LOUD
This first round came in with hype because the West had four 60-win teams and looked like a historic bloodbath.
Instead? The West top seeds went 16-1.
Sixteen and one.
That wasnât a playoff round. That was the rich teams kicking everyone else out of the building and changing the locks. The East had a little more chaos, but even there, most of the series either ended in sweeps or blowout closeouts. NBA Twitter was absolutely murdering the league, calling the product trash, begging for the first round to go back to best-of-5, and saying this might be the worst Round 1 in NBA history.
And honestly? They werenât being dramatic for once. Disturbing development for humanity.
No drama. No fake Clippers push. No âcould this get weird?â nonsense. OKC won Game 1 at home, then Shai dropped 43 points in a 120-103 Game 2 win, and from there the Clippers were basically fighting for oxygen.
By Game 4, it was over. OKC swept clean and looked exactly like a 1 seed should.
Series vibe: OKC didnât play with food. The Clippers were just paperwork.
NBA Twitter:
âOKC sweep. Shai 43. no thinkpieces. peaceful experience.â
âClippers annual playoff exit ritual completed.â
Then Dallas shut that down immediately.
They won Games 1, 2, and 3 at home/early in the series, including a 115-86 Game 2 win behind Luh Flexâs 29/8/6. By the time they were up 3-0, the âDallas might be vulnerable without Copperâ crowd was starving.
Houston did save face in Game 4 with a 119-100 home win, avoiding the sweep. But then Dallas came right back in Game 5 and smoked them 126-95 to end it.
So yes, Houston avoided broom jokes. Barely. Then immediately lost by 31. That is not resistance, that is a decorative bandage on a house fire.
Series vibe: Dallas proved it could survive Round 1 without Copper. Houston got one pity punch in before getting folded.
NBA Twitter:
âDallas without Copper still won 4-1. injury excuse merchants in shambles.â
âHouston hung the âwe did not get sweptâ banner then lost by 31.â
Memphis made Game 1 somewhat uncomfortable, losing 107-102, but then the Spurs stopped entertaining the idea that this was a series.
Game 2 was a 118-85 beatdown. After that, the Grizzlies were finished. San Antonio went up 3-0, then completed the sweep.
Series vibe: Memphis looked annoying for one game, then San Antonio hit the âenoughâ button.
NBA Twitter:
âMemphis made Game 1 close and San Antonio took that personally.â
âSpurs sweep and get rest. boring but terrifying.â
Then the Lakers swept them.
Game 1 was ugly but close, with the Lakers winning 92-88 despite a late Warriors surge. Then Game 2 became a murder scene: Lakers won 137-101, with Jalen Green dropping 32.
Game 3 was the legacy punch: Luka dropped 48 as the Lakers won 122-116 to go up 3-0. By then, the Warriorsâ âdangerous 5 seedâ label was in a shallow grave.
Game 4 finished it. Lakers sweep. Warriors gone.
Series vibe: The most hyped first-round matchup became a Lakers demolition. Golden State got embarrassed.
NBA Twitter:
âLakers-Warriors was supposed to save Round 1 and Golden State won zero games.â
âLuka 48 and Warriors down 3-0. marketing fraud.â
âDangerous 5 seed my ass.â
Detroit did what it had to do: sweep them.
Game 2 was a 116-86 blowout, and by Game 3 the Bulls were already on life support. Detroit completed the sweep and avoided the generational slander that wouldâve come from giving a 35-win team hope.
Series vibe: The Pistons treated a 35-win playoff team like a 35-win playoff team. Respectfully cruel.
NBA Twitter:
â35-47 Bulls got swept. shocking to nobody with object permanence.â
âDetroit swept the paperwork mistake.â
Cleveland won Game 1 at home, but Boston punched back in Game 2 with a nasty fourth quarter, outscoring the Cavs 34-14 and winning 103-78 behind Jayson Tatumâs 31/12/3.
The Cavs responded by winning Game 3 in Boston, going up 2-1. Then Jaylen Brown detonated Game 4: 53 points in a 130-112 Celtics win, tying the series 2-2 and briefly putting Cleveland on fraud watch.
Then Cleveland snapped back.
Game 5: Cavs won 126-103, with Reed Sheppard dropping 43 and hitting 8 threes. Huge response. Then Game 6 in Boston was a full closeout beatdown: Cavs won 120-90 and advanced.
Boston made it interesting, but Cleveland won the last two games by 23 and 30. Thatâs how you shut the door.
Series vibe: Boston gave Cleveland a scare, Jaylen Brown had the moment of the round, but the Cavs restored order brutally.
NBA Twitter:
âJaylen dropped 53 just for Boston to lose the series in six.â
âReed Sheppard 43 with 8 threes saved Cleveland from slander hell.â
âCavs almost made this embarrassing, then won by 30 on the road.â
Game 1 was close, with the Knicks winning 111-107 behind 35 from Jalen Brunson. That looked like it might be a competitive series.
Then the Knicks won Game 2 117-92, went on the road and took Game 3, then completed the sweep in Brooklyn in Game 4.
The Nets didnât even get to lose dramatically. They just got little-brothered and sent home.
Series vibe: Brunson set the tone, Knicks controlled the series, Nets got packed up quietly.
NBA Twitter:
âKnicks sweep Brooklyn. city still ours.â
âNets werenât even dramatic enough to be iconic. just bad and boring.â
Philly stole Game 1 on the road 104-87, immediately raising eyebrows because the KJ Lewis/AJ Daniels duo being barely .500 made no sense. Orlando tied it in Game 2 with a 110-105 win, but Philly took control at home.
The 76ers won Game 3 115-101, then Game 4 108-98 to go up 3-1.
Orlando stayed alive in Game 5 with a 103-98 win, and thatâs when AJ Daniels started getting roasted hard. He had averaged 25 PPG on 63% TS in the regular season, but through the series was sitting at 15 PPG on 54% TS. Twitter had the fraud graphics loaded.
Then Game 6 happened.
AJ Daniels responded with 34 points on 75% TS, and Philly absolutely destroyed Orlando 119-82 to close the series. From playoff drop allegations to redemption game in one night. Shameless, hilarious, effective.
Series vibe: Philly was too talented to be a normal 5 seed. AJ Daniels got slandered, then answered with a monster closeout.
NBA Twitter:
âAJ Daniels saw the fraud watch posts and dropped 34 on 75 TS.â
âMagic won Game 5 just to lose by 37. unserious exit.â
âPhilly spent 82 games pretending to be mid for content.â
That is insane. The West had four 60-win teams, so everyone expected brutal series. Instead, OKC, Dallas, San Antonio, and the Lakers basically treated Round 1 like warmups.
Houston was the only lower West seed to win a game. One game. Then they lost by 31.
Just nasty.
Jalen Green had 32 in the Game 2 blowout. Luka dropped 48 in Game 3. The Warriors had a late push in Game 1, but after that, they were mostly getting cooked.
Golden Stateâs âdangerous 5 seedâ hype died violently.
Tatumâs 31/12/3 in Game 2.
Jaylen Brownâs 53 in Game 4.
Reed Sheppardâs 43 with 8 threes in Game 5.
Cavs closing Game 6 on the road by 30.
It had real swings, real slander, and real star moments.
Then he dropped 34 on 75% TS in a 37-point closeout win.
That is the basketball version of replying to a hate comment with a flamethrower.
People were saying:
five sweeps, no Game 7s, west top seeds went 16-1. worst first round ever has a real case
@WestBloodbath:
we called the west a bloodbath and the blood was just the lower seeds getting executed
@LeaguePassVictim:
I watched this entire first round and deserve compensation
@LakeShowVoltage:
Lakers swept Golden State. everyone calling the round trash can cry, I had fun
@WarriorsPainMuseum:
we were the featured matchup and got swept. historic product failure
@CavsDamageControl:
Jaylen 53 scared me but Reed 43 and a 30-point closeout saved my life
@PhillyAgenda:
AJ Daniels slander lasted one week and ended in a 34-point closeout. beautiful shameless basketball
@KnicksTapeToxic:
swept Brooklyn. no notes. city still ours.
@BullsTaxFraud:
35-47 playoff run ended in a sweep. thank you for attending our scam
@NBA_Memes:
Round 1 drama:
Game 1: maybe
Game 2: no
Game 3: dead
Game 4: broom
It had cool individual moments, but almost no series tension. The West was a massacre. The East had two sweeps, one fun Cavs-Celtics series, and Philly-Orlando ending with Orlando getting blown out by 37.
So yes, this round fully deserves the âworst first round everâ debate.
But the bracket coming out of it is fire:

Game 2 was a 116-86 blowout, and by Game 3 the Bulls were already on life support. Detroit completed the sweep and avoided the generational slander that wouldâve come from giving a 35-win team hope.

This was the Eastâs lone seed upset and one of the only semi-interesting series.Philly stole Game 1 on the road 104-87, immediately raising eyebrows because the KJ Lewis/AJ Daniels duo being barely .500 made no sense. Orlando tied it in Game 2 with a 110-105 win, but Philly took control at home.
