In Mandarin Four is pronounced "si", and Death is also pronounced "si". Different characters but same pronunciation.

In China the number is avoided and the fourth floor of buildings are often simply skipped. The go from 3 to 5.

8 is a luckily number in the same but opposite way. 8 is "ba" but "ba" sounds a lot like "fa", which means "get rich" when combined with "cai". "fa cai" means get rich. People will pay big extra money in China for things with the number 8 in them, like license plates and sim card numbers.
