Here's what this guy did.

-Deshpande created a website ("www.britemodels.com") pretending to recruit foid models, LARPing as "Devin", a modelling agent.
-A Stacy responded.
-He DMed Stacy to send nudes, promising her that he could "advance her career".
-She did, and he used them to blackmail her.
-Over the next year, he LARPed as multiple dudes, including "Jason" and "Nick", to manipulate, threaten, and blackmail her into sending more nudes. -On four occasions, he flew to Florida (while LARPing as "Nick") and unprotected sex with her in a hotel room, giving her alcohol and marijuana. He videotaped these encounters.
-After he was arrested, he befriended another inmate and tried to arrange a murder-for-hire so Stacy couldn't testify against him. The FBI caught wind of this too.

I also obtained a few dozen pages of their text conversations. Here are just some of the based things this currycel said.

"What guys have you is for a fuck...you are a piece of meat that's good to fuck and throw"

"You will meet a few fucks and get fucked and laid...no one will respect you for your worth or your inner strength"

In response, the Stacy mentally breaks down a few times.

In addition, Deshpande had numerous encrypted devices that the FBI was unable to unlock, given his expertise as a security architect. So this 16-year-old Stacy might not have been his only victim.

Sentencing

Deshpande was indicted on three counts -- receipt of child pornography, production of child pornography, and attempted (and actual) enticement of a minor. He took a plea deal but was sentenced to life without parole anyway. Over for him.Jfl

To be fair, he tried to talk to an undercover FBI agent about a contract killing on the underage girl he blackmailed into having sex jfl. The federal government has no age of consent but increasingly this is being interpreted as being at 16 years old. As per the Supreme Court ruling Esquivel-Quintana v Sessions (2017), the majority ruling had it that:

In the context of statutory rape offenses that criminalize sexual intercourse based solely on the ages of the participants, the generic federal definition of "sexual abuse of a minor" requires the age of the victim to be less than 16.

So for federal purposes of defining a minor, the age is 16, and the feds generally won't pursue statutory rape cases if she is 16 and above (this is why if you notice, almost all these stings involve girls under 16).

But that's not what happened here. He was convicted based on 18 U.S.C. § 2422(b) which prohibits "inducing, enticing or coercing an individual to travel in interstate or foreign commerce with the purpose of engaging in prostitution or any criminal sexual activity". This is a federal felony regardless of the victim's age, but if an "individual who has been persuaded, induced, enticed, or coerced to engage in prostitution or other criminal sexual act is under the age of 18, then the penalty is 15 years imprisonment and/or a fine." As such, he wasn't so much convicted for statutory rape as he was convicted of pimping and sex trafficking minors like some low-level Vaishya.

This law functions essentially the same way hate crime enhancements work; It's nothing to do with federal statutes on age of consent, but moreso that you can't threaten young women with blackmail over their illegally obtained underage pornography, and then use that to coerce more young women into sex (do we *really* believe they'd willingly go with this curry for any other reason?), then plot to kill the girl after it turns out she contacts the feds over his whole operation?
