Reddit is the 4th most popular website in the United States and the 9th most popular website in the world, with 542 million monthly visitors. Encouraging people to share any content they choose has left Reddit with a shady past. Executives of Reddit have begun to filter the forum, banning unauthorized material and any subreddit that engages in violence in any type. Here are some of the dark subreddits:
1. /R/BeatingWomen
/r/BeatingWomen
Graphic examples of abuse against women may be found on the subreddit. It wasn’t a particularly common subreddit, but it did exist, which is bad enough. Since the subreddit’s administrators were spotted posting users’ personal details publicly, the subreddit was suspended in 2014. The developers attempted to get around the ban by launching a new subreddit called BeatingWomen2, but it was soon shut down.
2. /R/Jailbait
“Best of Reddit”
/R/Jailbait was a subreddit dedicated to material featuring sexually explicit images and videos of adolescents. It was very revolting. At the time, Erik Martin, Reddit’s general manager, defended several notorious subreddits, including Jailbait, by claiming that it was like one of the side effects of promoting free expression on the web. Reddit administrators took down the subreddit after a user shared a picture of an underage teenager, saying that he had nude photos of her as well. Many users requested that the photos be sent to them personally.
3. /R/FatPeopleHate
/R/FatPeopleHate often referred to as FPH.
Reddit administrators blocked a host of subreddits in the summer of 2015, stating their anti-harassment policies. Many users claimed that the restriction was arbitrary, and that Reddit admins were looking for an excuse to ban the subreddit at any time because it was causing bad attention. Reddit was run by temporary CEO Ellen Pao at the time the subreddit was blocked.

Coontown promoting violent hate speech against black people
The administrators of Reddit announced in 2015 that it was time to make their website a bit safer for work. The Reddit administrators revealed that they will be blocking a number of offensive subreddits and quarantining a number of others in a wide statement. Coontown was a subreddit devoted to spreading racist anti-black hate speech.

/r/FindBostonBombers is one of the worst things that Reddit has ever done.
It was essentially a witch hunt, with thousands of people bullying the social media pages of individuals, Reddit accused of being involved in the Boston Marathon bombing. Sunil Tripathi, a 22-year-old college graduate, was among the accused. . Users sent his family insulting messages such as branding him a jihadist, a bad American, sick in the brain, and a variety of other derogatory terms . Sunil Tripathi, the initial Boston Bomber perpetrator, was discovered dead in the Seekonk River a few days after the Bombers were detained. His death was determined to be a suicide.
