Is it possible to widen the mandible with non-custom plates?
And also, does it somehow affect the shadow effect on the cheekbones(assuming that the patient does not undergo cheekbone implants)?
i dont think you'd want to risk that, custom plates are like 4x stronger and way lower risk. The risk of shifting and complications would be unnecessarily high

most surgeons wont do widening without them for that reason

In the long term that many implants is always gonna fuck you up. Over if they get infected and you have to remove them and your bonelessness is revealed, only worse because the implants have also degraded your bone
keep coping yea

God damn I’m lucky all I really needed was a HT and fillers.

Chin is supposed to be the worst place for bone erosion and I have had a silicone chin implant for 21 years with almost no bone erosion. I have recent scans.
How old r u?

Tag me when the swelling subsides please.

Call me a hypocrite but this just doesn’t feel right. You guys call people out on “frauding” and then applaud this. Even with good development it’s unlikely he would’ve looked anything close to that.

I’m not claiming a moral high ground here, he’s not hurting anyone. But this has some philosophical implications. The dude literally lost part of his identity, ship of theseus type shit.

I am not against surgeries to ascend but temporarily frauding your looks for a selfie to ask for a rate is not good.

You yourself have no control over how you look, and it drastically impacts your life. Your identity is who you really are on the inside.

I think it is an issue that society formed an idea of identity around facial appearance in the first place. This is the pervasive idea that you could change anything about yourself and you will still be "yourself," although if you alter your face you are no longer "yourself." This is what people often cite when they dismiss plastic surgery--they worry it would make them "not like themself" anymore. We live in a world where it is impossible for anyone to "be themself," so injunctions to "be yourself" are always moot. The challenge is instead to find out how to live in a world where nobody can actually be themself, since we view the self inevitably through the eyes of others therefore annihilating the integrity of the concept altogether.

In this sense, Giant Implants can be seen to be actually carrying out a philosophical transition from a Levinasian view of faciality, which treats the face as a guarantor of transcendental subjectivity and basis of visual representation, to a Deleuzoguattarian one, which is a critique of the former. For more on this distinction see here.

As John Welchman puts it in a 1988 article, after modernity, "[f]aces could no longer be naturalistically reassembled and comprehended by any logic of incarnation or “human essence” or pre-Modern subjectivity. Under the new conditions of modernity, the face was either marked out, alienated from the body and the social envelope alike, or it was reconvened as a structure, invaded and controlled by the outside. As the supposed locus of (authorial) intentions and phenomenological “presence,” the face was withdrawn further by the killing-off of “authors” and the refutation of perceptualism. Even in the renewal of attention to the body in formations of technology and power, the face, with its ceaseless implications of previous symbolic orders—imperial, religious, bourgeois—has been more or less effaced."

Kind regards

I disagree with this. You do have some control over how'll your turn out looks-wise, especially when you're young. But most people don't have the knowledge at that point to know what to do.

I also think that the way you look is part of your identity. Imagine waking up in a different body out of nowhere, don't you think you'd have an existential crisis? Your body and your consciousness are not completely dissociated, at least not while we're living life as physical, biological beings.

I personally think this is deeper than society. It predates civilization, and in those times, the effects were even more pronounced. The less "historic information" (what you know about their past actions + your ability to interpret these actions) you were able to gather about yourself and others, the more you had to rely on visual cues.

The face has always been subject to invasion and outside control. That role was once mostly filled by the natural environment and the individual. But today, technology demands that we ask the question of "What are precisely the bounds of our own sense of physical self?" That's my point, exactly. There is a line that separates exfoliating your face and putting implants. I'm not saying either are inherently bad, but there's a reason why the former doesn't make most consider their physical identity, while the latter has people arguing and pondering. And that reason is not due only to a societal construct, it's linked to a deeper sense of conciousness and identity itself. One which first arises in the first person: "Will I look like 'myself'?" comes before "Will others still view me as 'myself'?

Amazing change, looks way better than before. The midface and frontal bone change are mindblowing specially. Once the swelling goes down he will look spectacular.

He opted for a very masculine design, I think the prettyboy look comes from the hair and skin complexion most of the time. If he had short hair he would look less prettyboy-ish.

Btw can't believe some people are so retarded to say the result is bad when is still swollen and we haven't seen a frontal pic yet. Negative IQ, not even on Reddit you see this kind of retardation

It looks like the lower maxilla and mandible wasn't advanced enough. Just upper maxilla.
But it looks like the photo is taken from above so it might be this. Would need a level photo or scan
