Jfl at the fact that 9/11 happened. How the hell did 19 guys with BOXCUTTERS hijack 4 planes (no more than 5 guys a plane). Boxcutters can be used as a weapon but they’re not lethal (unless you press it directly against someone’s neck).

There was probably at least 50 people on each plane, meaning that they outnumbered the hijackers 10:1, at the very least.

IMO she deserved a lot more blame than she got. It was known (not generally, but within the Airline community and Intelligence Community) from an incident in France that Muslim extremists where trying to hijack airliners for the purpose of crashing them into buildings. Simply making the doors to the cockpits more secure would have prevented 9/11.

It really wasn't the fault of the passengers because as far as they knew the plane was just being hijacked for ransom.

The likely answer is a combination of bystander effect mixed with fear of the unknown (“okay I see one terrorist with a boxcutter.. but what if the others have guns? Or bombs?”) mixed with the (perhaps naive) belief that the terrorists were not going to kill everyone on board because from the perspective of some random plane passengers in 2001, it probably didn’t seem likely that the terrorists would kill themselves as well.

There wasn’t enough people on those planes to find the ultra rare type of gigahero that would’ve got the ball rolling.
