I speak for a lot of Whites when I say my mom (when teaching me about racially-charged language) told me there's an "n word"
Here's why that's the dumbest approach ever:
When a parent tells a kid a certain word is "the (whatever letter) word," the kid ends up viewing the word as a swear.
And what do kids think of swearing? Kids find swearing funny. Telling your kid there's an "n word" will simply ensure your kid will want to use "the n word" as much as possible.
Telling your kid there's an "n word" will make the kid think "So in addition to all the other swear words I know, there's also an n word? How funny. A new swear to add to my vocabulary"
