I am an average-looking teenager of average height (177 cm / 5’10.5”). I am well-off now, but I haven't always been. I grew up without a father, alone with my mother. Our family's financial situation was what it was; my mother had to work all day and would finish at 3:00 AM. From the age of 6 until 12, I waited up every single night for her to return from work just to spend time with her (maybe that’s why I’m only 177 cm / 5’10.5” tall; even though I don't know my father, I know he is 188 cm / 6’2” and was also good-looking). I don't remember anything about my father except the screaming and the fights with my mother, while I was locked in my room unable to do anything. Even though I was little, I understood everything, and from what I’ve been told, the teachers used to tell my mother that they had never seen a child like me and that I was very intelligent for my age.
Even though my family situation was difficult, I had all the prerequisites to be a normal child. Honestly, from what I was told, I was a very handsome, serious, and intelligent child. But when I was 5 years old, something changed: I had to get a vaccine, something didn't go as it should have, and it’s as if I suddenly became stupid. I almost became paraplegic, I developed Tourette syndrome (fortunately, it is now very mild and I have no noticeable tics), and I became neurodivergent—ADHD with obsessive-compulsive and oppositional defiant traits. That was my sentence.
Now I live in a neurotypical world with the constant feeling of being different from everyone else. I constantly feel lonely and depressed, even when I pretend to be normal while surrounded by many people. Deep down, I know I am alone. Even under the cover of anonymity, writing this message is difficult for me, and I am writing it with tears in my eyes. I can never stop thinking about another life where I am neurotypical and leading a normal life just like all the other kids.
Even though our family situation has improved and we are now well-off because my mother found a partner, I don't care about money. With every passing day, I feel more alone and sad. Ever since I was 13, I’ve been asking myself when it will be my turn to be loved and to feel appreciated by someone else. I kept telling myself, "I'm only 13, there's still time," but in 3 days I will turn 17, and nothing has changed—I am only sadder and lonelier. There are many other things I could say that I haven't, but this message is already too long. If you want, ask me any questions you like. Thank you for reading.
