So I was working the other day and my manager made a comment to the tune of the universe is absurd and meaningless, nothing happens for a reason, we live simply to die, there is no god, and the universe is a sea of chaos that exists for absolutely no reason. To which I thought, “the universe is absurd and meaningless sure, congrats on being the 20 millionth edgy tween to figure that out.” Which is where what I will further, though briefly, elaborate originated.
Think about what that means for a moment. For absolutely no reason, humans are somehow able to construct meaning, happiness, and find fulfillment in and out of this absurdity. That is nothing short of a superpower in my book. We are able to do this so well, in fact, that we can manipulate the very fabric of reality to our whims. Is it not incredible that this happened? And for no reason, too. That still leaves a lot of room for us to learn and grow further. Which, again, is nothing short of a super power - having this ability. The fact that we find ourselves in this position, nay, the fact that we CAN “find ourselves” is nothing short of a miracle of indeterminate chaos. The fact that there is space for this to even happen is, quite simply, an instance of beautiful and sublime absurdity.
Oh what creatures we are, in the words of Olaf Stapeldon from Star Maker, “it is enough to have been created.”
