Have you ever met some nigga in university or at work who seems completely indifferent to distractions. Doesnt care about girls, parties, relationships even food or sleep. Someone who is utterly absorbed in their craft or calling driven not by external rewards but by a deep inner sense of purpose.
In psychology, this intense, unwavering dedication is what described as self-actualization. The pinnacle of human motivation.
Users on thr forum misunderstand the Maslowβs hierarchy of needs. It's not a rigid ladder where one must complete each lower level (physiological needs, safety, love, esteem) before reaching the top. Maslow himself clarified that the stages are fluid and individuals can pursue self-actualization even if some lower needs remain unmet like an artist working on his painting without sleeping or eating. The pyramid model was popularized later to oversimplifies the theory.
Carl Rogers, another pioneer of psychology described the fully functioning or actualized person as someone who lives in harmony with their true self someone authentic, creative and fully immersed in realizing their potential. They donβt seek validation or pleasure from the outside world their motivation is intrinsic. They have unmissable drive and focus. You can take everything away from them but they still stay rock solid in their mission. Working relentlessly not out of obligation but out of joy meaning, and a deep connection. This is what is called self actualization and it has produced some of greatest minds ever known to mankind.
Nikola Tesla who worked tirelessly in solitude neglecting food and sleep in pursuit of his vision. Emily Dickinson barely left her room for decades, writing thousands of poems in solitude, unseen and unread in her lifetime but become literary masterpieces afterwards. These are some of the examples
You can call it coping mechanism or delusionmaxxing but there are people with this drive and they are hell bent on changing thr world and leaving their mark. These people don't chase the world, they bend it.
