there are two areas in our mouth that stimulate important nerves.

One nerve is stimulated by your tongue when it presses against the SPOT.

The other is the vagus nerve which is, supposedly activated by your posterior third of the tongue being up against the roof of your tongue.

I wasn’t told the name of this study, but there is a case of a woman with Parkinson’s improving her mobility and motor function after stimulating the spot for 3 months. Tested on day 1 and then 3 months later. Remarkable difference :

another regarding the spot — was apparently anothe elderly woman was asked to stimulate the spot manually with her thumb, and the differences in her were observed.

Re the vagus nerve. I know there is a surgical implant designed to send signals and stimulate the vagus nerve for sufferers of epilepsy or seizures or something like that.

Vagus nerve stimulation is also associated with oxytocin and neurochemical release/production.

It is plausible that there is a biological mechanism in play which reinforces proper tongue position through the release of oxytocin via vagus nerve stimulation through the tongue position. Is that not plausible? Through a biological reward circuitry.

makes sense theoretically

when youre swallowing if youre doing it properly the tongue should press forcefully on the roof of the mouth stimulating the vagus nerve wihch connects to the digestive system

It seems possible the vagus nerve is being stimulated by the work we do, and perhaps this is a reason why breastfed babies are more social than formula fed ones (eg: due to the increased oxytocin release through stimulating their palate during the feeding, then consequently adopting tongue on roof of mouth posture, correct swallow pattern, etc).

could be

also theres probably some correlation between vagus nerve activation and good gut microbiome+decreased gut permeability/etc all which have profound affects on development and psychological stuff like sociability

When resting the tip of the tongue at the very border of the gumline behind the upper incisors, the tip and the area below the nose begin to tingle, not unlike licking a 9V battery (albeit to a much subtler extent). The tip of the tongue has to touch the spot very lightly -- deliberate, forceful pushing kills the sensation. The tongue has to be fully relaxed in order for this to occur. Information on this phenomenon is very scarce, so I must ask, does anyone have more information on this? Here are the only useful bits I managed to gather:

In Qigong practice it is a traditional practice to rest the tongue lightly against the upper hard palate just behind the teeth. This connects the Yin and Yang channels in the body and completes the microcosmic orbit, promoting higher energy flow in the body. In turn, the enhanced energy in Du Mai and Ren Mai channels supports all the other channels, and builds optimum health.

The practice of connecting the Yin and Yang meridians promotes the Breath of Life observed in craniosacral therapy, which is the flow of the cerebro-spinal fluid up and down the midline of the body. Cerebrospinal fluid can be likened to a river in the body. This deepest vital force is often called the tide. The tide is the essence of life. The Breath of Life in cerebrospinal fluid stimulates healthy brain function, assists musculoskeletal alignment, promotes freedom of movement in the body, supports all organs, and connects to spirit.
