Intro
First of all, this thread is mostly just a list of traditional acne products and one OTC drug I was prescribed. I have tried, and my documentation of what was effective to my skin (combination t-zone)
OTC drug: Around 2 years ago, I was prescribed minocycline for my acne, and I will say singlehandedly that this was pretty helpful in preventing acne breakouts. I have never been on Accutane, tretinoin, peptides, etc., but from my personal experience, this drug, minocycline, was not bad and prevented and lowered inflammation and acne in my face. (My specific dosage was 50mg x2 a day. From what I've researched online, it works by killing Cutibacterium acnes (C. acnes) bacteria and reducing inflammation. In my personal experience, results began to show around 5 weeks into the treatment, with it reducing most of my inflammation. It also has high lipid solubility, which basically means it enters your sebaceous glands quite well. There is a slight drawback to it, however, in that it makes you photosensitive and thus makes pigmentation easier. This can be negative, especially if you have PIH (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation)
quite a good drug tbh but certainly not the best
cleansers
- Cetaphil's foam cleanser (6/10) I never really saw great results on it
- Eversoft avocado/rice bran oil cleanser (6/10) felt good, but nothing crazy
- La Roche Posay effacular cleanser (7/10), generally a pretty good cleanser for the price
- Anua heartleaf bha cleanser (8/10) is still using quite pricey, but I've seen the most changes in acne on this cleanser
-manyo oil cleanser- (undecided on this)
Creams
Clearasil benzoyl peroxide 5% - (8/10) saw overnight results on active acne when applying
Innisfree Vitamin C Brightening Cream (8/10) helped with PIH decently
serums
Olay luminous vitamin c + niacinamide super serum - genuinely ass for my skin
Anua 10+ txa 4 serum (9/10) kinda pricey, but I genuinely only really saw PIH going down once I used this serum
La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo+M triple (7/10) purged really fucking hard in the start because it was my first time using niacinamide
moisturisers:
Beauty of Joseon relief sun- aqua fresh: (9/10) doubles as a sunscreen with 50+ SPF, really good and lightweight, however quite pricey
