ive seen alot of people on here treating every mark on their face like its the same thing and then buying random products because somebody said it worked for them, so im gonna explain this properly.

first you need to know what youre actually dealing with because there is a big difference between pigmentation and an actual scar. if you have a flat brown mark left after a pimple thats usually post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, if its flat and red/pink thats more like post inflammatory erythema. neither one is the same as a depressed acne scar.

actual acne scars are usually caused by abnormal collagen remodeling after inflammation and they can look like rolling scars, boxcar scars or ice pick scars. this matters because a serum isnt going to magically fill a deep indentation and a scar procedure isnt necessarily what you need for a flat dark mark.

the first thing id focus on is stopping new acne because there isnt much point trying to improve old scars while new inflamed pimples are still appearing. picking and squeezing is also one of the easiest ways to make things worse.

for flat pigmentation the boring stuff actually matters. sunscreen is important because UV exposure can make pigmentation more noticeable. ingredients such as azelaic acid and topical retinoids are also commonly used in acne treatment and can help with some post acne discoloration, but more products doesnt mean better results.

if you want to actually improve your skin yourself, keep it simple. gentle cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen in the morning. at night cleanse again and use an appropriate acne treatment rather than throwing 10 different acids onto your face. give it time. skincare isnt supposed to burn or destroy your skin to work.

if youre dealing with active acne, benzoyl peroxide or a topical retinoid are common evidence based options, but because acne treatment can irritate skin and youre still developing, its worth asking a dermatologist or pharmacist what is appropriate for you instead of copying some adult skincare routine from tiktok.

now if youre talking about real indented scars thats where skincare gets more limited. topical products can improve the overall condition of the skin but a deep structural indentation is not something you should expect a cream to completely erase.

this is where dermatologists have treatments such as microneedling, fractional laser treatments, chemical techniques, subcision and punch procedures depending on the type and depth of the scar. there isnt one universal best treatment because rolling scars, boxcar scars and ice pick scars have different structures.

do NOT try to recreate those procedures yourself. no stabbing your face with random needles, no putting strong acids on yourself and no injecting random peptides. professional procedures are controlled for a reason. doing them yourself can cause infection, burns, pigmentation problems and even worse scarring.

another thing people need to understand is that scar improvement is slow. collagen remodeling doesnt happen overnight and professional treatments can require multiple sessions.

and dont forget the stuff outside skincare. sleep properly, eat enough nutritious food, stay active and dont smoke. none of these are magic scar cures, but your skin is still living tissue and general health matters for normal healing.

also stop constantly touching your face. clean your phone, change pillowcases regularly, wash after sweating and dont sit there squeezing every bump you find. you dont need some insane 30 step routine.

if your acne is severe, painful, constantly leaving marks or already causing scars then seeing a dermatologist is honestly more useful than spending months testing random shit from the internet.

especially if youre young, dont start experimenting with aggressive procedures or random peptides because some guy online called it high IQ.

the main thing is to identify what youre dealing with first. flat pigmentation is one problem, redness is another, active acne is another and actual depressed scarring is another.

once you know which one you have the treatment makes alot more sense. there isnt a secret ingredient that fixes every type of scar.

the highest effort approach is actually understanding the problem, controlling new acne, protecting your skin and giving legitimate treatments enough time to work.

acne scars can be improved, but how much they improve depends heavily on what type you have and how early you deal with the acne causing them in the first place.
