After spending ovER 1 year trying to make tretinoin work and having it only age my skin and give me wrinkles I'm now trying adapalene, it's been 2 days and my forehead (where I'm using it) is aged as fuck, after waking up the skin looks old as shit compared to the rest of my face so I need to moisturize right away to reduce it, and I also use moisturizer at night alongside urea cream, vaseline and toner so I'm in an extreme hydration stack yet my skin is aged as shit and the wrinkles under both of my eyes that tretinoin gave me now came back the night after I started using this shit, some people only get their skin destroyed by vitamin a stuff so if I were to try retinol the same shit would happen, I'm only gonna apply this for 1 month if after one month I don't get it to remove the wrinkle in my forehead that that fucking tretinoin cancer gave me then I'm done with vitamin a poisonous vermin forever.

This is the kind of shit all that filth does to you if you don't react well to it.

@Luffymaxxing it's ovER.

you are one of the few people who get fat loss from tret, its well documented and there are even groups dedicated to this.
idiotic of you not to stop and try basically the same thing now (adap)

You are not supposed to use tret on eye area. Also tret in general is just cucked.

I'm trying to antiage like no one ever has and still be in my prime in 30 years and beyond like chuando tan so I must try everything and nevER give up.

I Didn't use it in my eye area but even the slightest amount of that shit makes wrinkles under my eye appear regardlesd of where in my face I apply it.

Happened the same to me, i only apply to nose, and lower face now

I use tret for 6 months and my skin improved.
Everyone is different. Maybe retinoids are not for you

What mechanism U think causes this for some? //Balbir Singh

Some of the science behind tretinoin and potential facial fat loss

Hello, I’m here to share just some of the evidence that explains why your topically applied retinoids are almost certainly not causing any facial fat loss. I am by no means an expert, but I do have a B.S. in biochemistry and research is a passion of mine.

Studies show that all trans-retinoic acid (ATRA) leads to lipid (fat) loss, and decreases pre-adipocyte differentiation (new fat cells trying to form) (1, 2, 11). This occurs when ATRA directly interacts with the fat cells, which can only happen in a lab, or when RA is ingested orally, or injected subcutaneously. The following post will explain why topical application causing fat loss is extremely unlikely.

Many factors influence if retinoids can travel through the skin layers to the fat tissues in the face. Regarding the formulation, it will depend on the particular retinoids in the formula, and the carrier being used. Most of the cells the retinoid molecules passes will interact with it in some way, and almost all of those retinoid molecules either get stuck in the stratum corneum or get involved in chemical reactions along the way. Excess retinoids run out long before they can reach the fat layer.

So how deep do retinoids actually penetrate the skin? Can they reach the fat tissue layer?

The average depth of facial skin (dermis + epidermis) ranges from ~0.8 mm (upper eyelid) to ~2.0 mm (lower nasal sidewall) (3, Table 1), in range with another study (4, Table 1b).

Pig skin and human skin are very similar and are often compared in topical studies. This study was performed on a 15 mm diameter by ~0.7 mm thick circular piece of dead pig skin, using two different nanocarriers. After application of 500 micrograms of retinol, up to 4 micrograms of retinol were found in the skin sample, almost all within the first 0.3 mm of skin (5, Fig. 1). Around 0.25 micrograms were found beyond 0.5 mm in residual dermis and subcutaneous fat cells (5). Compared to the natural amounts of RA already stored in those fat cells (12), the minuscule amount that travels there is a drop in the bucket. And keep in mind how thick our skin is in comparison.

Proretinal nanoparticles penetrated nearly 0.5 mm into the skin through hair follicles (10). These studies support the evidence that most of the retinoid gets trapped in the stratum corneum layer due to its lipophilic nature (8 Table 2, 9, 10).

Related question that came up during my search: can retinoids improve cellulite?

Yes, by increasing the thickness of the skin through increased collagen production and other well known benefits (6, 7). There is no evidence suggesting it impacts the fat cells, it just improves the elasticity and firmness of the skin, reducing the appearance of cellulite.

**Tldr** Yes, when introduced to cells in a lab or ingested orally, retinoids can cause fat loss. However, there is a lot of evidence showing that topical retinoids aren’t able to move much further than ~0.5 mm into the skin with the best nanocarriers, and even our thinnest area (upper eyelid) is ~0.8 mm thick. Almost all of the retinoid molecules get stuck/used in the first 0.3 mm. So it’s extremely unlikely that topical retinoid are capable of causing facial fat loss. **ETA:** I posted some more research in the comments.

**Double edit** If you are elderly and/or have abnormally thin skin, there is a risk that a fraction (~5%) of the retinoid could enter the fatty tissue layer and cause facial fat loss. It’s impossible to quantify how much fat loss could occur. In my opinion, with everything I’ve put together, the risk is very minimal for the average user. See comments for more intricacies and sources. You can minimize penetration depth by choosing a less efficient carrier, like the cream based formula. Nanocarriers will increase depth.

Please feel free to ask further questions or probe into my sources. I have more interesting sources to provide if anyone is interested. This is all still just scratching the surface of how complicated retinoic acid mechanisms can be. I did hyperfocus and stay up way too late though for this, oops, so I’m off to bed for now.

Shouldn't you consult a dermatologist before using this? I mean fuck, tret isn't all sunshine and rainbows.
