Nootropic thread — and yes, I wrote this while on Adderall lol
I’ve gone down the rabbit hole of nootropics and honestly… I think people massively overcomplicate this shit.
You’ve got Modafinil, Semax, Selank, L-theanine, racetams, caffeine stacks, peptides etc etc.
And I get the appeal.
But after looking into all of them, there’s a pretty obvious difference between something that gives you a subtle cognitive boost and something that actually changes your level of focus and drive.
Adderall is just in a different league in terms of how noticeable the effect can be.
Modafinil = wakefulness + focus
L-theanine = subtle relaxation/focus, especially with caffeine
semax/Selank = interesting, but the human evidence is still pretty limited
Most supplements/nootropics = small effects at best, and sometimes you’re basically convincing yourself you feel something
Then you have Adderall, which directly affects dopamine and noradrenaline and can produce a very obvious increase in attention, alertness and task engagement.
So if we’re talking purely about “what produces the strongest noticeable cognitive effect?”
I don’t think most conventional nootropics are even competing in the same category.
BUT — and this is important — stronger ≠ better.
Adderall has substantially more downside potential, especially around sleep, tolerance, cardiovascular effects and dependence. It’s a prescription medication, not some harmless productivity supplement.
I just think the nootropic community sometimes acts like every compound is roughly equivalent when the pharmacology and magnitude of effects can be completely different.
Anyway, that’s my take.
First thread I have wrote in a couple weeks And yes, I wrote this thread on addy so take that however you want
