Hi, I'm sure a lot of you've heard of or seen in some way shape or form the recent uptick in some very horrid things being spammed in offtopic. The moderation team here is well aware of it and is working tirelessly to rid the forum of it.
These posts are from breached accounts from stealer logs from external sources. If you don't know what stealer logs are, essentially they are dumps of plaintext passwords for websites and other data stolen by info-stealing malware, which are then compiled online.
This in no way reflects an exposed backend for .org and people are not getting logins directly from the site. Nonetheless, we would all strongly suggest turning on 2FA to help prevent people from gaining access to your account. Also, all mods have 2FA on by default so you needn't worry about any malicious actors getting access to our accounts. To check if you're in any of these stealer log dumps, I'd recommend looking at haveibeenpwned.com and checking if your email or password has been compiled in these.
We're also doing our best to report any and all illegal content to the authorities and trying to find ways to get rid of malicious posters before they even get to post the sort of horrible things they've been posting.
Nonetheless, if you see something, please immediately report it and tag mods. I'm active a lot of the time, so I would recommend tagging me — but if I'm not, tag an active mod (but try to not tag sub-mods or approval mods since they don't always have the correct perms to delete posts in corresponding sections).
Additionally, it is not a great many people behind these attacks but rather a select few people, and we're doing our utmost to rid the forum of them. This is by no means a common thing, and soon the forum will be rid of it entire. As I said, we truly do not take this lightly, and we're working endlessly to take these sorts of posts down and the people behind this targeted attack against the forum (and yes, it is an attack against the forum if that wasn't already obvious) WILL be taken care of and hopefully put behind bars if the authorities will take it as seriously as we will.
Thanks for reading. If you have any questions, I'll do my best to respond. If you're going to be disruptive in the replies, I will be deleting it.

More than anything it's quite saddening.
Somewhat, but fear spreads like wildfire, so when a few people got wary, it passed on.

But hopefully this post fully clears the air, and people stop freaking out so much.

I get it though, as the fear of being associated with posts that go against TOS is scary. But it's not exclusive problem only this site faces, so…

It mostly begins with fear mongering by worth of mouth then goes down and down and the people fear mongering have literally no clue as if what they are saying and that creates problems for the site mods

uptick in account deletions face deletions and numerous others which is not what we have time for due to people not understanding things
