I've got a funny theory about this myself, that might actually be legit (for some part).

A lot of female models are more androgynous-looking compared to other, 'regular' females.
Many of them look more masculine than regular girls and therefore, they probably had a different type of upbringing where they weren't really into girly/feminine things and preferred doing boyish/masculine things when growing up, think of tomboys for example.

I did some digging the other day and found out that quite a few of the current female models were tomboys when growing up.

Maybe them being tomboys/doing boyish things/hanging out with mostly guys when growing up, translated into them less popular compared to their female peers at the time and receiving less validation in general.

Being less feminine as a child > Hanging out with boys, doing boyish things > becoming less popular > receiving less validation > less hypergamous later on in life.
