  • Upgrade to a High-Security Lock – Consider a deadbolt with a reinforced strike plate or a smart lock for better protection. Brands like Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, and Schlage Primus are great for high security.
  • Use Longer Screws – If you have a deadbolt, replace the short screws in the strike plate with 3-inch screws to make it harder to kick in the door.
  • Rekey or Change Locks Regularly – If you've given out keys in the past, consider rekeying the lock or upgrading to a keyless entry system.
  • Pick-Proof Features – Choose a lock with security pins or sidebars to prevent lockpicking. Some models have anti-bump, anti-pick, and anti-drill features.
  • Install a Secondary Lock – Add door jammers, chain locks, or sliding bolts to increase resistance against forced entry.
  • Lubricate Your Lock – Use graphite powder or silicone-based lubricant (not WD-40) to keep the lock smooth and prevent jamming over time.
  • Consider Smart Locks – If convenience is a priority, smart locks with biometric access, PIN codes, or remote control via phone can enhance security without compromising ease of use.
