I’m convinced at this point. Every Wikipedia article I read reads like a story book. Every podcast or documentary I watch has stock footage of Africans barely staying on horses. The Songhai empire is described as “rich and luscious” on Wikipedia yet the entire thing was destroyed by an army of 40,000 Moroccans in a few weeks?

Then they have what they call “architecture”

I’m not convinced. Where is Africa’s Westminster Abbey? Every historical document reads like a giant role play.

Being destroyed doesnt mean anything tho

The aztecs were legit engineering moggers but still got destroyed by 1000 Spanish manlets

It has more to do with war prowess, some civilizations were great but sucked at war for many reasons.

Asztecd were engineering moggers? Again where were their ships that could sail across the Atlantic. Where were their non pyramidal non religious community structures. If you actually read into it they started burning their own churches because they thought the gods had arrived.

u mirin the pyramids brah

Nigga you must be crazy if you dont think they were great engineers

Just look at this

Even the Spanish were amazed by their buildings as you can see by reading their writings
its also a myth that the aztecs thought the spanish were gods(this belief was trumped a long time ago)

And of course they didn't build ships cause they didn't need too, thats the sole reason why the portuguese were great at sailing(cause it was their only option) but sucked at everything else.

The Spanish mogged them war wise cause they had gunpowder+horses+war experience, which was a huge advantage

Being good or bad at war doesnt mean that a civilization is inferior or superior

Idk about african history, Im just stating a fact

Yeah, that’s great architecture but I’m seeing the pattern of religious megalithic building with slums around it... impressive it’s build on water but still.

Also no that is not a myth, I read a primary source from an Aztec writing translated to English... Basically they they sacrificed two humans in front of them and tried to serve their blood on their food which angered them, the ruler at the time thought they had angered the gods. It was probably written post the war but still.

Roman city like Timgad or Nimes much more impressive IMO and built in Africa but nobody talks about it...

there's evidence that much of this supposed aztec writings were frauded by spanish conquerors and by aztec warriors that survived the battles, the myth was probably spread after the conquest, as there's no concrete evidence of aztecs worshipping the spanish before.

Idk if tenochtitlán was the most impressive city of the world, but it was for sure one of those:

"When we saw so many cities and villages built in the water and other great towns on dry land we were amazed and said that it was like the enchantments (...) on account of the great towers and cues and buildings rising from the water, and all built of masonry. And some of our soldiers even asked whether the things that we saw were not a dream? (...) I do not know how to describe it, seeing things as we did that had never been heard of or seen before, not even dreamed about.
— Bernal Díaz del Castillo, The Conquest of New Spain"

" Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés arrived in Tenochtitlan on 8 November 1519. Although there are not precise numbers, the city's population has been estimated at between 200,000–400,000 inhabitants, placing Tenochtitlan among the largest cities in the world at that time. Compared to the cities of Europe, only Paris, Venice and Constantinople might have rivaled it. It was five times the size of the London of Henry VIII. In a letter to the Spanish king, Cortés wrote that Tenochtitlan was as large as Seville or Córdoba. Cortes' men were in awe at the sight of the splendid city and many wondered if they were dreaming."

There is no doubt that the aztec empire was a great and impressive civilization even by european standards.

The thing is that many civilizations were great, but sucked at war for many reasons. The aztecs were geographically isolated, which explains why they were so shitty at war:

1 - They had no horses/camels/elephants or any animal they could use as a weapon
2 - They had no access to gunpowder
3 - The biggest empires of the Americas were separated by big geographical barriers, so they didn't have experience at big battles and war strategy

That explains why they got destroyed.

Idk if there were any good civilizations on Africa, im just saying that being conquered doesnt mean that a civilization is shit.

What are some good books or documentaries on African history, more specifically African civilizations and society (not just tribal affiliations) you can recommend?

You should read all volumes 1-8 General History of Africa by UNESCO (highly reliable).

Warriors: Life & Death among The Somalis, Gerald Haley (also highly reliable).
