After 18 years I found out that I needed to breath with my nose…

I’m 18 and I recently realized that I’ve been breathing through my mouth most of my life instead of my nose. I’m now trying to fix that and switch to proper nasal breathing.

I also have an open bite — my front teeth don’t touch at all, only my back teeth do. Because of that, I’m scheduled to have maxillofacial surgery around September. The plan is to correct my jaw and reposition the upper teeth so everything aligns properly.

If anyone has been through something similar (open bite, jaw surgery, or fixing breathing habits), I’d really appreciate any advice, tips, or things to expect.

Thanks.
