I don't think he said that though exactly, just that we can only know objects as they appear within the conditions imposed by our cognition, meaning that its not imaginary but moreso there is def a reality underlying the appearances that we cannot comprehend via cognition

he was just saying that how we see everything it comes through perception and without perception he can't see shit so we can't see true reality either
imo this somewhat makes sense except that i don't believe that thing in itself exists. imo only my perception exists
