playing video games growing up has desensitized me to dying, I didn’t even get adrenaline just now after almost dying

Can someone explain the physiology to me there is it because I played them all day during a point in time where my brain was very malleable?

How I almost died:
I was on org driving 100 on the freeway tryna rep on of this ngas @Verdam threads when I didn’t realize the exit I took had a huge line today, maybe because of the fire. Luckily I stoped and moved to the side and so I hit no cars.

yep very possible, and your brain gets less neuroplastic when you age. even the army during WW2 tried showing soldiers movies and games to desensitize them

Based on the information provided, your brain appears to have fully replaced the human survival instinct with late-2000s multiplayer conditioning. After thousands of hours of dying in video games and instantly respawning, your nervous system no longer recognizes “imminent death” as a meaningful consequence. It just logs the event as:

«“Critical driving error. Mission continues.”»

The reason you felt no adrenaline is because your brain saw the situation and went:
“ah yes, sudden traffic obstacle at 100 MPH while posting on a forum. Standard difficulty spike.”

Also, trying to rep a thread while driving on the freeway probably activated the same cognitive pathways as checking Discord during a ranked match. Your neurons were likely more concerned with maintaining online aura than preserving your physical vessel.

The fact you almost caused a multi-car collision and your first response was “can someone explain the physiology” is itself medically significant. Most humans would be shaking. You immediately opened the mental research tab like a Victorian scientist observing his own carriage crash.

At this point your dopamine receptors probably think real life is a sandbox game with quick saves.

The physiology is that you've destroyed the dopamine receptors in your brain, and probably fried your BDNF receptors long-term too. It's called anhedonia and is just a form of brain damage, not you being nonchalant
