It's incredible how American propaganda is able to completely manipulate narratives without it seeming like propaganda. China isn't able to come close to this. Instead of censoring dissenting points of view, American media is able to completely discredit them. Modern American politics is literally built off of the weaponization of information. 90% of what you see on the news is designed to manipulate you into following a particular agenda and hate its opposition.

Now I am not claiming that it is some secret cabal of elites doing this but rather it is an emergent property of the American system. Everyone does their job and as a result bullshit agendas are pushed without any awareness of why or any real consideration of their consequences. This is why other countries are terrified of America. If that system gets out of control there is no stopping it.

Most of the book is about how privately owned capitalist media (which is most news media in the US) can be used for censorship and promoting government propaganda. It's a very interesting book but Parenti is a Marxist so a lot of the premises of the book are pretty controversial
