2200 is too low to gain muscles, you are skinny now too so you cant recomp either. i eat the same calories every day even on rest days, thats when your muscle is build up. Also about the walking, well average 1 hour session of walking takes away 300 calories, majority of people walk 15 minutes at most daily which isn't alotWould you eat different amount of calories depending on "training" or "off" days?
