When there’s a tragedy involving both adults and children people always focus on the children as if their lives mattered more.

Adults have built entire lives. They have relationships, people who depend on them, and connections that have developed over years.

Retarded take. The adult has kids in order to have a stake in the future. When children die, a piece of the future dies with them. Adults are valuable as we keep society running but without kids there'd be no society to run down the line. That is why it is far more tragic, setting aside the sentiment.
