social inhibition:
there are many things that cause the this some of them are
Social inhibition is the tendency for behaviors that are exhibited when one is alone to be minimized in the presence of others. - psychnet.apa.org
social inhibition is the avoidance of certain topics, situations, and or actions simply for the sake of not being within the judgement of people around you. basically, when you talk to people around you, and you have a piece to add to the conversation, you dont. why? well because maybe Sally, or John will not approve of this, or maybe you don´t tell someone to go away because you are scared you will hurt their feelings.
there are many things that cause the this some of them are
- Parental overcontrol and psychopathology
- Trauma and other adverse life events
- A family history of social anxiety disorder
- The existence of other mental health conditions
- Visible injuries or physical differences
- Substance use
- A low socioeconomic status
- Cultural differences
- Gender roles and differences in parental interactions based on gender
Psychologists generally view Behavioral Inhibition (BI) as the temperamental "root" of social inhibition.
this is kind of a complicated matter, and there isn´t much information available about this. Kagan et al. (1988) points out that
inhibition is a temperamental tendency to display wariness, fearfulness, or restraint in response to unfamiliar people, objects, and situations.
temperamental, meaning that this permanently affects someones behavior

- the audience effect - people can sometimes perform worse doing things when people are watching
- social withdrawal - it can cause people to avoid social situations
- mental health - social anxiety, and other potential phobias
- cognitive development - it can ruin social development in children, and make understanding social cues harder in adults
- emotional distress - it can cause negative feelings, including high anxiety, and self-consciousness
behavioral inhibition is ¨ a heightened tendency to display fear, withdrawal, or inhibition in novel, unfamiliar, or challenging situations¨
basically someone feels fear more often then usual to new objects, sounds they don´t recognize, and strangers
this is more common in very young children and is not often shown in adults

behavioral inhibition happens to children, and social inhibition happens to children and adults.
also, behavioral inhibition increases fear response, but social inhibition is more like bottling away your emotions compared to feeling them more.

this will be a small section, but social facilitation is when people are improved when others are around
in 1898, Norman Triplett saw that cyclists were faster when riding in groups, than when alone.
in 1898, Norman Triplett saw that cyclists were faster when riding in groups, than when alone.
this law states that people in groups act better on well-practiced tasks, but struggle in groups on more complex tasks due to increased social pressure
- face your fears - think back to your social interaction, and think about why you were scared, knowing your problem is the first step to overcoming it. if you are scared to talk to the opposite gender, speak to girls more often, and etc
- be more confident - being more confident isn´t as simple as just ¨im confident now!!¨ improve yourself, and be proud of who you are. we are on a forum dedicated to improving ourselves so do it!! its never over.
- get better friends - one if you have to filter yourself around your friends, why are you even talking to them? and two if you are not comfortable with your friends, they aren´t your friends.
- stop thinking about the worst case scenario - when doing anything at all the worst thing you could be doing is thinking about what could go wrong, why? because that creates fear, all you do is scare yourself. at the end of the day people aren´t gonna think about what you said for longer then 5 minutes after the conversation, so why does it matter so much?
the biggest solution would be to work on general social anxiety, seek a therapist with issues like these.
