Mostly genetic, however enviroment/diet can help a bit. My brother ate fast food and plays video games all day still has good forward growth. Mewing when young can help guide your forward growth, he never knew that, he could've gotten a bit more forward growth.

Also environment has a huge impact on how genes will evolve.
That's why polar bears have thick and white fur and regular bears have less dense hide. Each of them adapted throughout evolution to their environment respectively.

The reason why we have crooked teeth is because our jaws are shrinking because bad diet. We would have perfect jaws and teeth if we ate our natural hard nutrient rich diet
