If you have a tongue tie, you may not even know. You might think you could be functioning normally, and because you were a mouth breather, your maxilla is recessed and your airways are restricted. It could not be the case, as if you don't have a severe tongue tie, it can go unnoticed from birth till death. Even people like speech therapists didn't notice this—a dentist you have been going to for years or an actual orthodontist. If your tongue is tied, you can't hold proper tongue posture and will become recessed in your maxilla. As you probably know, a recessed maxilla controls the airways, and if your teeth are crowded, it is the leading cause. A tongue tie can result in a high palate, as shown in the image. Just cause of this simple flaw at birth, which is normally looked over causes all these problems people get in their life and lead to orthodontics.
It is a simple procedure to remove a tongue tie, can do it at your local dentist (3-7 day
recovery max) but you will need myofunctional therapy after to fix this. Also it would be highly advisable to get an ALF appliance, which may greatly help your teeth become uncrowded and help with upper jawbone growth.
