It's set in the near future like 2030, the UK is in war with Russia. As a result many of us are helping with the war effort making ammo and bombs for our troops to use. The government has also made a rule that we aren't allowed to move out of cities and towns as the rural countryside is dangerous and might have russian soldiers, as a result anyone who leaves the cities will be shot because they could potentially be going out to contact russian soldiers. I am working as a detective/government investigator during this time. I turn my TV on and see on the news there is a "mysterious" person spreading pro russia propaganda. One such example of his propaganda is the fact he spray painted the word "peace" on a government building.
I go into my office later that day and I am assigned this case, to investigate into this mysterious man. I have been chasing him for about 3 months, his examples of propaganda becoming more and more "extreme", the news had reported he drew a hammer and sickle on the wall. But when I had seen the "extreme" drawing, it barely looked like a hammer and sickle. The news was essentially pushing a fake narrative, saying this anti-war protestor was a russian propaganda machine. However this protestor is also wanted for the murder of some black girl, he had supposedly kidnapped and brutally murdered her.
It was a snowy day outside, and I look on the floor and see footprints. The soles of this man's shoes had read "porn (cross mark) free healthcare (tick)", I had known this was the man I was after. I had followed the footprints and ended up in a tescos. I now had to find the man I was after in tescos, I walk around and eventually manage to identify the target, I start calling in for backup to surround him. The man starts running, my backup is a load of shit. So I start chasing the dude and eventually catch onto his leg and do a single leg.
I then keep the guy pinned down using a scarf hold (pin from judo). I then ask him why the fuck he murdered the girl, she was innocent. The man's face is flaky as fuck, he literally looks like a meth addict, his ginger hair and pale skin are disgusting to look at. He tells me that he had to do it, that she was cheating on her boyfriend with him and he was only preserving her honour. I felt disgusted hearing this and told him that doesn't justify taking a human life. He laughs and so my backup finally arrive and we take him to a guantanamo bay like area.
I felt like my case was over at this point, but I was confused as to why this man had supported russia despite being english. So I had visited the prison, the prison is in set on a hill surrounded by forests, the trees are all dying however and you can see the city in the distance.
So I arrive to the jail and request to take the protester for a walk/outside within the prison grounds. We are sat down on some grassy hill which has a single dead tree.
I ask him why he is in support of Russia. The protestor laughs and tells me he is an anti-war protestor, there is no real war it's a minor conflict between russia. And that the ammo/weapons companies have bought the government out and so by promoting a war more people will create ammo for a cheaper price. But as a result of this creation of ammo we are drastically fucking the enviornment up. Protestor starts telling me how the lockdown is bullshit and was designed for us to never find out about the environmental effects of this "war".
The protestor is a high IQ sage type, he explores a lot and likes to think and so he starts telling me about his adventures. I am being told about how this one forest in the UK (one which I remember being full of life) is now dead.
"The forest is no longer the same, malnourished cows now wander in the dead land to die because they cannot bear the pain of life. The forest is now so hot that a man can only last at most 5 days there without dying. I had lived near the forest and the things I saw and heard are unspeakable, I've seen people die in that forest. I remember encountering a scientist woman during my trips to that forest, she was gone for. Unable to think, her skin peeling off her, she had came to collect data but had wandered too deep. She now rests in an acidic pool of waste."
"so why did you venture into the forest? What made you do such a stupid thing?" I asked
"I had heard the cries of a baby in a bush, I was terrified and ran towards the cries. I see a baby barely alive screaming for food, I had to watch him die. As I soon found out, mothers unable to take care of their children had left their babies in the bushes of the forest, the bush near that baby it was full of dead babies. Babies scattered deep in the bush, some dying gruesome deaths with the dead bush's branches piercing through them at times"
I was in total shock, but had asked how this was due to the environment failing.
"That forest is just one of many, people are having a tougher time growing food and that's why food prices are rising it's not due to any russian embargos or blockages, it's because we dont have the land to grow it. We have killed our environment. I only ask for 'peace' because then we might have a chance of regrowing our crops and saving our environment"
Everything the protestor had said made sense, his skin was peeling off because he was exposed to the horrors of the enviornment. I agreed with him on a deeper level, but I couldn't betray the system. My colleagues had caught wind of his conversation with me and told me that he was lying and manipulating me. I now was in a dilemma do I believe him? Everything I saw so far made sense, the news seeing him as russian propaganda was bullshit. But he is a known manipulator. He asks me to free him, but I refused. I felt awful...
I then walk him back to his cell, where he is going to be sentenced to death soon. I reflect on everything he says and I still am not comfortable with the decision I made. The movie/dream then ends.
