a jaw surgeon told me about this in preop planning.
if your palate is too small your tongue is too big to be able to place on the soft palate (i.e. "mewing").
you notice when your tongue is in that posture your jaw looks much more defined
so not only does a small palate look bad in itself it forces you to place your tongue in a place that dramatically makes your jawline undefined
