Gut barrier integrity is built from amino acids, micronutrients, etc - you dont regenerate enterocytes out of air - Intermittent fasting improves insulin sensitivity and reduces inflammatory load(as a fact, and what I belive in) But prolonged or frequent fasting without high quality refeeding degrades absorption capacity long-term
Sinclair talks about hormetic stress, not starvation as a baseline, so no quality input - no quality tissue - worse gains and worse looks, regardless of how “rested” your metabolism is
