regarding mortality

i have accepted that i have to die because it's how the world works (for now at least) and that the significance of my existence is just a biological illusion; what freaks me out is the realization that i'll most likely be feeling pain in the future (from both my diseases or injuries and the suffering of my family members, friends, future wife or favorite athletes)

i guess obsessing over this in your life than it's necessary is just a symptom of depression or bad mood. at the moment i have no such problems regarding mine or others' pain, so i'm trying to internalize the feeling of absolute comfort while resting or watching vikings: valhalla hard, like i'm assuming it's gonna give me some sort of immunity from suffering

if i've ever been jealous of anyone, it's
1. guys with pawg girlfriends
2. luka dončić
2. people who die in their sleep without having been ill beforehand

In most cases you will be lucid enough to take your own life and end your misery, 2 minutes at the worst attempt. Romans took their own lives on the battlefield when they had no other option, that's what being a man is all about. When you can no longer live honorably, die with it.

objectively you are right - what's a couple of minutes of physical pain compared to eternity you'll spend non-existing - but unfortunately we are insignificant enough on the large scale for most of us to care about it

yeah. i understand why people from the past had to psychologically condition themselves to value dying as warriors, "for a sacred cause", over anything, but come on, imminent death threat or finding out you have 3 months left to life is cognitively the worst experience you can have

Right now you're afraid because you want to see the future. Thing is, if you're sick enough and you see the end it would be much easier to take that step. If I give you a gun and tell you to shoot yourself, you wouldn't do it. If I give you a gun and release 100 pitbulls to bite your ass, you better be sure you pull that trigger. In other words, you need real life pressure and not just imaginary pressure. If you have cirrhosis or terminal cancer and there's legit no hope for you other than wait and die, I don't see why you wouldn't try to kill yourself. You don't literally have to suffer like that, unless you're brain damaged or something happens and you can't decide, in which case you wouldn't really be aware of it all anyway. The only problem might be if you believe in god and that you shouldn't kill yourself because it's a murder of the self or whatever.

The Romans believed that dying by suicide is sacred and a honorable dead. Holding just for the sake of it as an invalid or a total failure was seen as a shameful thing. When a general lost a battle he would usually kill himself by going with his sword from the neck to the chest. I can see why things like Vikings comfort you because they respect an idea more than life itself so it minimize the value of actually being alive. The disregard for life for the sake of very temporary glory etc is admirable in some sense.

''We are not intend to die old in our beds''

yeah, exactly this, good post.

i guess i'm just aware that my (applies to everyone, really) life is only gonna get worse in the future

i don't take beliefs about suicide being a sin seriously, obviously it's just our self-programming method

No reason to be thinking about this if you’re under 60

ive stopped worrying about my self ceasing to exist long ago. Theres a lot of uncertainty to what ceasing to exist would even be like.
Nothing guarantees a continuance of your consciousness even while youre still alive.
In a way, going by a specific definition, you could be dying, and have died many times without realizing it. Not in the biological sense.

That's not what he's scared of. He's not afraid of death, he's afraid of dying. He's scared of pain. And don't walk me through the bullshit about pain is not real and what does it mean because we all know it's real as a motherfucker and if you doubt it take a knife and stick it up there you will come back typing differently.

good point, you can even extend this position to your "experience" of living. and all the seemingly beneficial aspects of existence are owed and only exist to balance out the fact that we've been born in the first place anyway

I'm a massive coward regarding physical pain. Emotional pain not so much as there are a plethora of methods of which you can kill yourself in a relatively painless way if it gets too unbearable.

doesnt modern medicine minimize the chance of experiencing overbearing pain for extended periods of time, in lethal situations? for example, severe burn victims get placed into an induced coma. If im understanding this correctly, its just a general fear of pain and suffering, which is weird since its so uncertain.

I'm more afraid of emotional pain. A terrible accident that you recover from sounds less terrifying than being clinically depressed, which you will recover from too. I will wage that I experienced both at greater levels than the average person, at least my age, and that's my conclusion.

That's only for acute pain as you mentioned, if you have chronic pain there's not much to do about it other than become a junkie which will bring it's own problems. Which again, I prefer chronic pain over being clinically depressed.

3rd degree burns on my legs. Genuinely cannot comprehend the pain someone would be in if their entire body was to get burnt alive.

cant you just kill yourself at that point?

Read my first posts, that's the only logical conclusion when you KNOW it's over if you don't believe that god forbid it. But how long will you suffer? what about the hope that it will be gone? improve? how much would u take? 2 years? 5 years? 10 years? that's something that OP might've thought about. It's not like ok I have pain! let's kill myself! people have hope that things will get better, you can suffer for a long time before understanding that it's going nowhere and you suffered years for nothing.

A few yes, although the incident was when I was a child so most of the scars have practically healed by now

oddly familiar level of retardation. i kissed a lamp + tried to catch a bee with my mouth when i was of similar age, with obvious consequences. i still remember that second of contact with a lamp like it lasted for a decade

seems like a pretty niche scenario

i get many pussies bro

There's some Japanese girl in pain now, she suffered like that for many years. She's thinking about suicide. Only you can heal and fix her.
