I’d have been able to get this job without a degree just by building years of experience instead. And I would have a lot more money now.

Mechanical engineering is a worthless and useless degree for sure because you can make this kind of 40k salary with 5 years experience in basically anything and there’s no real progression possible. The only silver lining is the work is easy and I only really work 3 days a week. But that’s more down to luck/my situation than anything systemic.

It’s no good anywhere really. Bear in mind this requires a DIFFICULT 5 year degree and in uk you are literally starting at minimum wage. Notice how expanded the timescales are in the UK for the better job titles as well.

You may be able to make a lot by starting your own company but unfortunately most engineers are autists and unable to make the connections necessary to do that. My only chance is therefore to looksmax and then try to mentally rewire using drugs + positive feedback loop. Unless I can cure the autistic micro expressions that make normies despise me on sight, it’s essentially game over as I’ll never be able to run a business.

There is decent money in offshore/FIFO but to be honest you’d make more as a skilled technician with the same time investment as the degree.

As you can see the progression is so slow that your purchasing power will essentially be flat over your lifetime as inflation will easily keep up if not outpace your pay growth even with promotions.

Whenever we are doing “workshops” to “encourage STEM” I really have to bite my tongue to not go on this rant. Brad at work is a very different animal to forum Brad.

Even having the iq to be a mechanicall engineer already puts you ahead of a very sizable % of the population even if your current salary might not directly reflect that, and still 40k is over the uk average which is very good assuming your 28 from graduating at 18+5y uni + 5y experience. I went back to university but I wouldn’t recommend it.

Try and just get into something that requires some quick certs that you can do while living with your parents e.g. something local but in demand.

Real money is made from stock market, not your career, for the 99% of people who aren’t finance bros and tech bros. So the earlier you start the better. Stock market doubles every 5 years or so and you are simply not gonna keep up with that with your pay rises.
